Private Lessons and School Tutoring in Lebanon — Maths, Sciences and Languages

Some students need a group. Others need a teacher’s full attention on one subject, one exam or one gap. Al Khawarizmi Institute gives private lessons — one-to-one or in a small private group — in every course we teach, and private tutoring in school subjects: maths, biology, physics, chemistry, Arabic, French and English. We have taught in Lebanon since 2011.

When private lessons make more sense than a group

  • An exam is close. With a few weeks left, a plan built around one student’s weak points beats a group pace. Crash courses are available for exactly this.
  • A gap between two levels. When a placement test puts a student between levels, a few private classes can close the gap so they join the higher group instead of repeating.
  • One subject is dragging the rest down. A student who is fine everywhere except physics, or maths, needs that subject — not general revision.
  • The timetable does not fit a group. Private lessons are scheduled with the teacher, including mornings and Saturdays.
  • Confidence. Adults starting a language from zero, and students who freeze when speaking in front of others, often progress faster alone first.

School subjects we tutor

We tutor maths, the three sciences — biology, physics and chemistry — and the three school languages, Arabic, French and English. Tutoring follows the student’s own school material: bring the book, the worksheets and the dates of the next tests, and the lessons are built around them.

We are deliberately not an after-school centre. The point is not to sit with a student while they do their homework, but to fix the thing that makes the homework hard — a topic that never clicked, a method that was never taught clearly, or exam technique.

Languages and exams, one-to-one

Every course we teach can be taken privately: English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Russian and Arabic for non-native speakers, and preparation for IELTS, TOEFL, SAT, ACT, the EEE, DELF and Cambridge English. For language courses, a free written placement test of 20–30 minutes comes first, so the lessons start at your real level.

How it works

  • Tell us the subject and the goal — a test date, a grade to recover, a level to reach.
  • We agree the times with the teacher — mornings, afternoons, evenings or Saturdays, Monday to Saturday.
  • Lessons run in person or online — at our main branch in Simkanieh (the Chouf) or our Aley branch, or live on Zoom with materials sent by WhatsApp or email.
  • You pay per hour, in blocks of 20 hours — in US dollars, by cash, Whish or OMT, with no registration fee.

Getting the most from private lessons

Private lessons work best when the student arrives with something specific: last week’s test, a chapter that did not make sense, a past paper. Regular sessions do more than a burst before an exam, and practice between lessons matters — we recommend one to two hours of study for every hour of lesson. Parents of younger students get the most out of tutoring when they tell us what the school is asking for, so the lessons and the classroom pull in the same direction.

Fees

Private lessons and tutoring are charged per hour and paid in blocks of 20 hours. The hourly rate depends on the subject and level, so we confirm it before you start. For comparison, group courses start from $150 as a reference figure. There is no registration fee, and you can pay in cash, by Whish or by OMT.

Frequently asked questions

Is this an after-school homework centre?

No. We give private tutoring in specific subjects — maths, biology, physics, chemistry, Arabic, French and English — focused on what the student needs, rather than supervised homework time.

Is tutoring one-to-one only?

No. Lessons can be one-to-one or in a small private group, for example two classmates preparing for the same exam.

How are private lessons charged?

Per hour, paid in blocks of 20 hours. We quote the hourly rate for your subject and level before you start. There is no registration fee.

Can private lessons be online?

Yes. Lessons run live on Zoom with a teacher, and materials are sent by WhatsApp or email.

Can we start in the middle of the school year?

Yes. We teach all year round, and private lessons are arranged around your timetable, so you do not wait for a group to open.

Which languages and exams can I take privately?

Any course we teach can be taken as private lessons — English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Russian and Arabic, and preparation for IELTS, TOEFL, SAT, ACT, the EEE, DELF and Cambridge English.
